A new roof is one of the most significant investments you'll make in your home. Installed correctly with quality materials, it will protect your home for 30 to 50 years and add genuine value to your property. Installed poorly — with the wrong materials, inadequate sarking, or shortcuts taken on flashings and ridge caps — you'll be dealing with leaks, cracked tiles, and ongoing repair costs within a few years.
This is why choosing the right roofing contractor for a new installation matters more than most homeowners realise. The price difference between a well-installed roof and a poorly-installed one is negligible at the time. The cost difference ten years later is anything but.
Gerard McCarthy has been installing roofs for 15 years. He started in Ireland, where weather conditions are demanding and standards are high, and brought those same standards to Sydney. When Sterling Roof Solutions installs a new roof, every element is done to a standard Gerard is comfortable putting his name to — from the sarking and battens through to the ridge caps, flashings, and guttering. No shortcuts, no subcontractors who don't know the job, no corners cut to save time.
We install new roofs across Sydney's North Shore, Ryde, the Northern Beaches, and Greater Sydney. If you're considering a new roof — whether it's a full replacement of an existing roof, a tile-to-Colorbond conversion, or a new installation on an extension or new build — call us for a free inspection and written quote.

New roof installation costs in Sydney vary significantly depending on the size and complexity of the roof, the material chosen, whether guttering and fascias are included, and what's involved in removing and disposing of the existing roof. The following gives a general guide — the only accurate price for your specific property is a written quote following a site inspection.
Colorbond re-roof (tile to metal conversion) — standard 3-bedroom Sydney home: Generally ranges from $15,000 to $25,000 depending on roof size, pitch, and complexity. This includes full tile removal and disposal, new sarking, new battens, Colorbond installation, ridge capping, flashings, and new guttering.
New concrete tile roof — standard 3-bedroom Sydney home: Generally ranges from $18,000 to $30,000 depending on tile specification, roof size, pitch complexity, and whether structural work is required.
New terracotta tile roof: Terracotta is the premium option and is priced accordingly — typically $25,000 to $40,000+ for a full installation on a standard Sydney home, depending on the tile specification and roof complexity.
New build or extension roofing: Priced on a case-by-case basis depending on the scope of the new structure. Contact us for a quote.
These figures are indicative only. Sydney roofing prices vary based on access, roof pitch, number of penetrations (chimneys, skylights, vents), and local council requirements. Gerard will provide a detailed, written quote following a free site inspection.

Sterling Roof Solutions installs new roofs across Sydney's North Shore and surrounding areas. We regularly work in Chatswood, Lane Cove, Willoughby, Artarmon, Mosman, Neutral Bay, Lindfield, Gordon, St Ives, Hornsby, Ryde, Meadowbank, Epping, Eastwood, Manly, Dee Why, Narrabeen, Mona Vale, and across Greater Sydney.
Sydney's North Shore has a large proportion of homes built between the 1950s and 1980s — properties with original concrete or terracotta tile roofs that are now at or approaching the end of their serviceable life. If your home is in this bracket and you're starting to spend money on ongoing repairs, it's worth getting an honest assessment of whether a full replacement is the more cost-effective long-term option.

Most new roof installations on a standard Sydney home take between two and five days depending on the size and complexity of the roof, the material being installed, and the weather. A straightforward tile-to-Colorbond conversion on a single-storey three-bedroom home can typically be completed in two to three days. A larger or more complex roof, or one with multiple chimneys, skylights, or irregular geometry, will take longer. Gerard will give you an accurate timeframe as part of the quoting process.
It depends on your home and your priorities. Colorbond is lighter, lower maintenance, and generally less expensive to install than concrete or terracotta tiles. It also comes in a wide range of colours and suits the majority of Sydney residential styles. Concrete tiles offer excellent thermal performance and a traditional appearance that suits some home styles better than metal. Terracotta is the premium option — exceptional longevity and appearance but at a higher cost. Gerard will discuss the pros and cons of each in the context of your specific property during a free consultation.
In most cases, no. New roof installations are carried out from the exterior of the home. Noise and dust can be an issue during strip-off, but the work is generally done without requiring you to vacate the property. If anything unexpected is found during the installation that affects the interior — significant sarking damage, rafter deterioration — we'll discuss the implications with you at the time.
For most Sydney homeowners with a concrete tile roof that's 30 or more years old, yes. At that age, the sarking will be non-functional, the battens are likely deteriorated, the ridge cap mortar will be cracked or failed across the entire roof, and individual tiles will be cracking regularly. Spending money on ongoing repairs is usually a false economy — the cumulative cost over five to ten years typically exceeds the cost of a full replacement. A tile-to-Colorbond conversion gives you a new 40 to 50 year roof, eliminates ongoing repair costs, and reduces the structural load on your home.
All new roof installations by Sterling Roof Solutions come with a workmanship warranty. Roofing materials — Colorbond, concrete tiles, terracotta — are covered by manufacturer warranties that Gerard will explain as part of the quotation. Contact us for specific warranty details relevant to your installation.
Yes. For full roof replacements and tile-to-Colorbond conversions, new guttering and downpipes are included as standard. Your existing guttering will be at the end of its life if the roof is, and it makes no sense to leave old guttering on a new roof. We install Colorbond guttering in a colour matched to your new roof.
For like-for-like roof replacements, council approval is generally not required in NSW. For significant changes to roof pitch, material, or form — particularly on heritage-listed properties — development consent may be required. Gerard will advise you on this during the consultation and can assist with the relevant documentation if required.

From a leaking roof that appeared overnight to a full replacement that's been on your radar for years — if it's on your roof, we handle it. Tiled roofs, Colorbond, flat roofs, guttering, chimneys, skylights — Gerard has seen it all and fixed it all in 15 years on the tools. Contact your local Sydney Roofers.
If your roof is reaching the end of its life, or you're planning a new build or extension and need a roofing contractor you can trust — the first step is a free site inspection with Gerard. We'll assess your current roof honestly, discuss the right material for your property, and give you a detailed written quote with no obligation to proceed.
